DEADLINE: Submit Party Enrollment Changes by Feb 14th

Last Updated: 2/7/2025

In accordance with NYS Election Law, if you wish to change your party enrollment in time for the 2025 primary elections, the Board of Elections must receive your voter registration form by February 14th.

Any enrollment change request received after February 14th will not take effect until July 1, 2025 (even if they were postmarked on or before Feb. 14th).

Remember that in New York State, if you wish to vote in a primary election, you must be an enrolled member of the political party for which the primary is being held. In other words, only Democrats can vote in Democratic primaries, only Republicans can vote in Republican primaries, etc.

There are currently four constituted parties in New York State:

Democratic (DEM)
Republican (REP)
Conservative (CON)
Working Families (WOR)

To change your party enrollment, you must submit a new voter registration form:

  • Online using the NY State Board of Elections Online Voter Registration Portal (by Feb. 14th).
  • Online using the DMV's Electronic Voter Registration Application (by Feb. 13th).
    • Registrations submitted to the DMV are received by the Board of Elections the following day, meaning enrollment changes filed with the DMV must be submitted on Feb. 13th or earlier to be timely.
  • In person at the Board of Elections (by Feb. 14th), or by mail* to:

Tioga County Board of Elections
1062 State Route 38
